Fall Planning Guide for Sioux Falls, SD Buyers and Sellers

Road lined with red and orange autumn trees under a blue sky

Updated November 2026

As summer wraps up, it is a good time to review your home search or selling plans. Rather than rely on a regional headline, focus on comparable homes, your budget and the choices available in your price range.

What This Means for Buyers

  • Be ready to move. Get pre-approved and make a clear list of must-haves before touring homes.

  • Watch for new listings. Set up alerts so you see fresh options right away.

  • Look at comparable sales. A regional median does not tell you what a particular home is worth. Review recent sales of similar homes in the area you are considering.

What This Means for Sellers

  • Prepare before listing. Well-priced, well-prepared homes can stand out to buyers who are comparing their options.

  • Plan around your timeline. The right time to list depends on your goals, the preparation your home needs and the competition in your price range.

  • Price from your comps. Your home's value depends on your area and price range, not a regional headline.

Reading Market Reports

Check the report month and the area covered before comparing numbers. A single-month median and a year-to-date median cover different periods and should not be treated as interchangeable. Inventory and months supply describe available supply, while closed sales describe completed transactions. None of these measures alone establishes what your home is worth.
